In 2016 July when I received the opportunity to connect with Debuilder Advocacy Centre International I thought yes I have gotten a job which will eventually bring me out of obscurity until I spoke with the President and owner via an online WhatsApp call interview.
The interview went very smoothly but my swollen mind and certainty was punctured when I was told to volunteer for the NGO for a period of six(6) months with no pay.
Because of my undying desire to reach and touch my generation with a systematic service I took up the challenge and started off with the organization.
I volunteered as a State Coordinator for Bayelsa where I currently reside in Nigeria. But began my from Oyo state where I was as at the inception of the volunteer effort. I was expected to carry out the following;
- Create programme content
- Design the flow of the events to be held
- Publicize the NGO among friends and community members
- Serve as mentor and teacher to the member youths and teenagers
- Produce and send in monthly report for every meeting held.
- Carry out community project like community cleaning, bushing clearing, health propagation etc.
- Teaching on finance making skill acquisition
The above I real performed with excellence as I believed God blessed my effort as a volunteer. I had about ninety(90) teenagers and youths who have become acquainted with and became fascinated about NGO.
